Christmas decorations

We got our tree out of the garage last Friday, but that is as far as we’ve gotten. And when I say “out of the garage” I mean that we took off the sheet that covers it and brought it inside. I DESPISE having to straighten out branches and whatnot, so we don’t even fold our tree up — we just take it out to the garage and throw a sheet over it.

And before you tell us to get a live one, we won’t. First of all, they are super messy, and I’d have to water it, which I will NOT remember to do. Then, we have two dogs who will do whatever it takes to get to the water that is in the tree holder - and a toddler who eats everything.

On top of that, our subdivision has had 5 electrical fires in the 2.5 years I’ve been living here (Ken lived here before I did, but I don’t know how many they had before I moved in). The other night, we kept hearing firetrucks in the neighborhood, and we were all, “Well, there’s another fire.” But it was actually the local fire department driving Santa Clause around to see the kids. But no one was outside because WE HAVE LOTS OF FIRES!!

Anywho, we feel safer having an artificial tree, and the one we have is really really high-quality and pretty.

So this is what Ken we have left to do …

* take the Christmas decorations out of the attic
* decorate tree
* put electric candles in all of the windows
* hang stockings
* prune down HUGE bushes in front of window so people can actually see the tree
* hang icycle lights around top of front porch

I’m also showered and dressed at 3:15pm so that when E gets up from her nap, I can get her ready, and we can take our Christmas pictures. I’ve got to get the cards ordered tonight if we have ANY chance of getting them out on time.

Bah humbug, y’all.

playing catch-up

Just now taking the time to post about Thanksgiving …

We stayed here on Thursday and went to Ken’s brother’s house for a family dinner. I made a chocolate pie using mom’s secret recipe … it was so secret that I had to call her to get the secret ingredient - she didn’t even put it on the recipe card!!

It actually took less than 45 minutes to make, and it was just as good as I remember. Yummmm.

We didn’t get up early for Black Friday shopping - but we did go out mid-morning just to see how crazy things were. Kohl’s and Toys R Us were both happening places, but traffic wasn’t bad at all. I got some blanket sleepers at Sears for $5/each, and I am KICKING myself for not getting more in her current size and larger sizes.

Saturday, E and I hit the road to Georgia to see my family. It was an icky, rainy day, but the 1.5 hour drive goes by pretty fast. We were able to get a portable DVD player for supah cheap on Friday, so she watched Dora the Explorer all the way down — and I learned a lot of Spanish.

For some reason, I didn’t take any pictures while we were down there, but we had loads of fun. And mom’s cooking is something I can NEVER get enough of.

So that was our Thanksgiving. Hope you all had a great holiday!
